Some of you may have recently seen the big news about a major development in Waverly. It was announced last week that Waverly was selected as one of Lowe’s “100 Hometowns” that will be receiving a grant for improvements in the community. In Waverly’s case, it will be the SCYMAC park just off of West Main Street (near the intersection with Coppahaunk Ave). Out of the thousands of applications, Waverly was one of those selected for the grant! (More information can be found at: https://www.thesussexsurrydispatch.com/news/town-of-waverly-receives-huge-surprise/article_05dfb216-f0ab-11eb-a5a4-dfc6a0c1df11.html)
To get the project started, some demolition must first occur. On Tuesday, August 10th, the community will come together to begin preparing the facility for its much needed upgrades, and the town is looking for as many community volunteers as they can find to help in the process. If you are interested, you need only contact Town Hall and let them know (804-834-2330).
Now, you might be wondering, why is this part of this week’s “Pastor’s Ponderings?” Well, as I ponder this great gift that Waverly has received, I can’t help but to also think about the great gift that God has given to all of us – that of God’s grace. Like the grant from Lowe’s, God’s grace is given to us freely to help us, to bring us joy, to improve our lives each and every day. God does not hold it back, and neither should we. Grace has always meant to be shared. In fact, Peter said this:
Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God,
serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.
(1 Peter 4:10, NRSV)
So, I personally invite you to be a part of what is about to transpire in Waverly. In accordance with the grace of God given to you, let us be good stewards of that grace by sharing this opportunity with our community, working side by side with one another, sharing in one another’s labor, easing one another’s burden, growing closer to each other as we grow closer to God.
Pastor Steve
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
(2 Corinthians 13:13, NRSV)
